Steve's Ride for the Red Cross has begun.
Since 1999, First Alert Chief Meteorologist Steve Weagle has pedaled through paradise to share a message about hurricane preparedness and to raise money for the American Red Cross, which helps when a hurricane hits.
This year, the COVID-19 pandemic is putting a twist on this WPTV tradition. While Steve won't be biking from the top of the Treasure Coast down to Boca Raton, he is still leading an effort to support the American Red Cross.
Steve's Ride for the Red Cross is a week-long event that gives you a chance to give back to the organization that's known for stepping up when the community needs it most. The American Red Cross was founded in 1881. Since then, the organization has offered relief efforts. When a disaster strikes, the American Red Cross provides everything from shelter to food and other emergency supplies.
You can help the American Red Cross' mission by making a donation to redcross.org/wptv or by texting WPTV5 to 41411.
Steve's Ride for the Red Cross runs through Friday.
Between the hours of 11a-12p and 4p-6:30p, this Monday through Friday, call 561-223-4411 to make a donation to The American Red Cross and to place your bid on the Townie Path 9D | 9D EQ bicycle, donated by Wheels of Wellington.
