The system is expected to strengthen into a Category 1 hurricane on Wednesday before making landfall on the east coast of Florida overnight Thursday.

"We will see those winds on the increase, especially as we head into this evening, mainly after 10 p.m.," Hall said. "As the storm moves onshore, that's when we'll see the worst of the weather."

By Wednesday afternoon, as Tropical Storm Nicole inches closer to Florida, tropical storm force winds over 40 miles per hour and on-and-off rain bands are expected throughout the day. There will be periods of heavy downpours and strong winds.

South Florida is under a level two of four threat for excessive rainfall.

On Wednesday night, Nicole is expected to make landfall and hurricane conditions are possible as the storm moves onshore.

Our viewing area could see some isolated tornadoes, Hall said. The Storm Prediction Center is placing South Florida under a level two of five threat for severe storms.

The storm surge threat will increase into the overnight hours Thursday and as Nicole pushes onshore.

Active weather will continue through Thursday morning, then Nicole will start to pull away. Windy conditions with some scattered showers will persist throughout the day Thursday, then slow clearing by the evening.

"Thursday morning, 9 a.m., the sun is breaking through the clouds, at least into Palm Beach County," WPTV First Alert Weather meteorologist Steve Villanueva said. "As we head toward Thursday afternoon, a mix of sun and clouds. Just a few lingering rain showers here and there."
