MARTIN COUNTY, Fla. — The Martin County Sheriff's Office has identified the victims of a deadly boat crash over the weekend as a 1-year-old girl and 28-year-old woman.

The sheriff's office said the wreck happened in the Intracoastal Waterway near Sewall's Point and Sandsprit Park just after 8 p.m. on Sunday.

The Martin County Sheriff’s Office identified the victims as 1-year-old Hudson Matakaetis and 28-year-old Paige Barrett. Their relationship is unclear.

Florida Fish and Wildlife said the wreck happened in the St. Lucie River near Sewall's Point and Sandsprit Park just after 8 p.m. on Sunday.

The boat, a 26-foot Carolina Composite Center Console, crashed into channel marker 238, throwing five of eight total passengers from the boat.

The other passengers included 31-year-old Kyle Barrett, 39-year-old Michael Matakaetis, 36-year-old Leanne Matakaetis, and three other children between ages 2 and 3-years-old.

Investigators with FWC identified the driver of the boat as Kyle Barrett.

Hudson Matakaetis and Paige Barrett were rescued from the water and taken to the hospital Sunday night with very serious injuries. They later died at the hospital, according to the sheriff's office.

The Matakaetis family owns several restaurants in Martin County, including the Stuart Boathouse, Mondo’s Wood Fired Pizza and a Hurricane Grill and Wings.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has taken over the investigation and will release additional information when it becomes available.

No other details, including what caused the boat to crash, have been released.
