PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. — Supporters of the late Charlie Kirk are paying tribute to him on college campuses and churches across the country after he was fatally shot last week at an event in Utah.
Supporters of Kirk gathered Sunday evening at Truth Church in Port St. Lucie for a memorial service to honor his life and legacy.
Hundreds attended the service, calling Kirk's death a "great loss" and vowing to continue his mission.
"History will recognize Charlie Kirk as the ultimate American patriot of our generation," one supporter said.
The event, hosted by the Republican Social Club of St. Lucie County, also served as a call to action. Speakers urged attendees not to let violence or fear silence them.
"We must not allow this fear or this hatred to shut us up. We must not let hatred shut our destiny," one speaker said at the service.

Kirk, a conservative activist and founder of Turning Point USA, was known for his outspoken views on faith, politics, and culture, including his support of former President Donald Trump. But many at the service said his influence reached beyond politics.
"He rallied a generation of young people. He inspired thousands, if not tens of thousands," a supporter said.
U.S Rep. Brian Mast, R-Fla., also addressed the crowd, encouraging them to carry Kirk's message forward.
"Charlie was a warrior, and his sword was truth," Mast said. "I have absolutely no doubt you were inspired by Charlie ... and your heart is aching for our nation, for his family, for our system.
Those who gathered at the Sunday service said that while they are grieving, Kirk's death has united them and strengthened their resolve to keep his vision alive.
