WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — The state will now have to find a replacement to Common Core following Gov. Ron DeSantis’ executive order to eliminate the controversial academic standards from Florida schools.

Florida Department of Education Commissioner Richard Corcoran is reviewing the academic standards for Florida’s Kindergarten through grade twelve students and will provide recommendations to DeSantis.
The Florida Department of Education is seeking input from the public and wants to know what standards concern you and what is your suggested replacement of Common Core.

State officials say they want to ensure the replacement to Common Core provides the following:
- Return to the basics of reading, writing and arithmetic
- Provide a road map to make Florida’s standards No. 1 in the nation
- Reflect Corcoran’s consultation with relevant stakeholders to include parents and teachers
- Deem how to increase the quality of instructional curriculum
- Suggest innovative ways to streamline testing
- Identify opportunities to equip high school graduates with sufficient knowledge of America’s civics, particularly the principles reflected in the United States Constitution, so as to be capable of discharging the responsibilities associated with American citizenship
- Outline a pathway for Florida to be the most literate state in the nation
