PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. — Port St. Lucie police said a 44-year-old woman accidentally drove her car into a restaurant Sunday night after mistakenly hitting the gas.

The incident happened around 9:05 p.m. at the El Cubanito Restaurant located at 1660 SE Port St. Lucie Blvd.

Police said the woman drove a 2015 white Toyota Corolla through the parking lot, jumped the sidewalk curb and ultimately crashed into the front glass of the business.

The car ended up completely inside of the restaurant. Four employees who were inside and closing up at the time were not hurt.

“Yesterday we did over 100 patrons. So if it was during peak hours, I don’t even want to think about that," said El Cubanito owner Osmany Estrada. “We’ve been here 15 years and this tops the crazy list of what’s happened.”

The driver told police she was attempting to park the car in front of the restaurant when she accidentally hit the gas pedal.

Police cited the woman for careless driving.

The wreck caused extensive damage to the business.

Estrada says he has insurance and once he boards up and makes sure the building is safe, they’ll be back in business, after getting served quite a surprise.
