Port St. Lucie police say they have made an arrest in a suspected drug-related shooting that sent a 25-year-old man to the hospital Monday night.

Around 10:30 p.m., Port St. Lucie Police were called to the intersection of SW Sterricker Street and SW Minyo Avenue .

When officers arrived, they found the victim sitting on the side of the road in the 1200 block of SW Minyo Avenue with a gunshot wound to his foot.

They later identified him as Louis Fernandez, 25, of Port St. Lucie.

Officers said they believe Fernandez went to the intersection to meet with another person for a possible drug transaction.

Police said the shooter, who arrived at the intersection in a white Nissan Maxima, exited his car and met with the victim.

During the meeting, the gunman pulled out a weapon and shot Fernandez, hitting him in the right foot.

Police said Fernandez fled the scene on foot as the suspect, whom they later identified as Richardson Saintil of Port St. Lucie, got in his car and chased the victim down.

Saintil then struck Fernandez with the right side of his car, causing him to roll down the side of the car landing on another car that was parked along SW Minyo Avenue, according to police.

Saintil then left in his Nissan Maxima.

Police say that they were able to locate a witness that saw Saintil pull into a driveway located in the 3600 block of SW Bellweg St.

Police found his car parked in a yard and during a search police located Saintil inside the home. In Saintil's car, detectives say that they found marijuana, hashish, crack cocaine and $520 in cash.

Officers found a handgun that is suspected to have been used in the shooting in a wooded lot located in the 1200 block of SW Minyo Avenue.

Fernandez sustained a gunshot wound to his right foot and injuries to his left leg from being hit by the car.

He was flown to a nearby hospital where he is being treated for injuries that are not life-threatening.

Saintil faces 2 counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and robbery with a firearm. Police say additional charges are likely.

Police said this is still an active investigation.
