BOCA RATON, Fla. — Boca Raton police say a weekend shooting outside a restaurant in the high-end downtown area was sparked by a fight between a customer and employee.

The police department said officers responded to reports of shots fired in a parking lot, located at 20 N. Federal Highway, around 12:30 a.m. on Saturday.

Investigators said there was an altercation between a customer and employee inside Kanpai restaurant. The argument spilled out into the rear parking lot, where a restaurant manager asked the customer to leave.

A friend of the manager intervened, and a physical fight broke out between that friend and the customer, according to police.

At some point, gunshots were fired and the manager's friend and customer sustained non-life threatening gunshot wounds. Both were taken to Delray Medical Center.

It's unclear who fired the shots, but the shooting remains under investigation.
