The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is tracking three areas of potential development in the Atlantic— none which will not affect the U.S.

A tropical wave is expected to move off the coast of Africa on Monday. An area of low pressure is expected to form as it moves west across the eastern and central tropical Atlantic through the upcoming week.

Right now, it does not pose a direct threat to the United States, but we will keep an eye on it as the low develops chance of formation is 30% during the next 7 days.

The other two areas we are watching both have a 20% chance of developing in the next 7 days. The first of the two, is a weak area of low pressure a few hundred miles east southeast of Bermuda. Development, if any, is expected to be slow as a drifts west through Sunday before accelerating northward next week.

The last area is a strong, non-tropical low several hundred miles west-northwest off the coast of Portugal. The disturbance could acquire subtropical or tropical characteristics this weekend as it moves towards Portugal and Northwestern, Spain.

The WPTV First Alert weather team will keep you informed if anything develops. The next named storm will take the name Dolly.
