VERO BEACH, Fla. — Bridges connecting the barrier islands to the mainland in Indian River County reopened Thursday morning after they were closed because of Nicole.

The Indian River County Sheriff's Office said early Thursday the bridges "are now determined to be impassible by non-emergency vehicular traffic."

Impacted bridges included the Merrill P. Barber Bridge and Wabasso Causeway Bridge.

Those bridges eventually reopened just after 5 a.m., the county announced on Twitter.

As the eyewall of the storm moved closer to the Treasure Coast overnight Thursday, deputies warned of 45 mile-per-hour sustained winds in the area.
