BOCA RATON, Fla. — Ingenuity and out-of-the-box thinking fuel the entrepreneurial spirit that defines so many small businesses.

As the COVID-19 pandemic hit this spring, small businesses across the country found new ways to serve their customers.

Boca Raton catering company, Potions in Motion, is staying optimistic despite a dismal spring and summer season.

Owner, Jason Savino is tapping into his creative side to help recover cost and adapt to the new customer needs in the market.

Potions is Motions started offering social distancing catering options to encourage guests engage at a safe distance while celebrating important milestones.

Savino says the pandemic quickly forced him to reinvent his business strategy.

About 85 percent of his business thrives on corporate events which have still been on hold since the pandemic hit.

However, Savino is noticing a stronger demand for private "micro-events."

With micro-events, families can still celebrate special milestones, with a smaller headcount that is typically under two dozen people.

“We at Potions in Motion have adapted new innovative services to offer our expertise of social distancing events,” said Savino. "Our catering team can deliver safe guest experiences.”

Potions in Motions has rolled out ‘"Welcome Sanitizing Stations" and hors d’oeuvres are served in small, individualized compartments to avoid cross contamination.

Marketing experts encourage businesses to stay optimistic.

“Retail establishments have to be functional, but the first three letters of functional are ‘fun’,” said Dr. Lawrence Burgee, professor of marketing at Palm Beach Atlantic University. "It’s got to be a fun experience or shoppers are not going to want to come back.”
