A brave convenience store clerk in Pompano Beach defended himself with a knife to fend off a robber last month.

Broward Sheriff's Office deputies said they need help identifying the man who stole cash from a 7-Eleven at 14 N. Federal Hwy. in Pompano Beach around 2:40 a.m. on March 14.

Surveillance video shows the robber pick up a pack of gum and opens his wallet as if he's going to pay.

He then walks away and around the sales counter. That's when the cashier goes into "defense mode" and stabs the suspect with a pocket knife and then runs to safety.

The robber then grabs the cash register and leaves the store.

The thief is described as 5 feet 10 inches with a closely-cropped haircut. He was dressed in a blue dress shirt, red shorts and red sneakers. He carried what appears to be white T-shirt on his shoulder.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Broward Sheriff's Office Det. Nicole Haugh at 954-321-4253.
