For Bob Binkley, Monday was a day for unexpected paperwork. He’s compiling a list for the ATF of the 19 firearms stolen from Bayshore Pawn early Saturday morning.
“It always happens to the little guy right?" says Buckey, shaking his head from behind the counter.
Surveillance video shows men inside the store, after police say they used a large landscaping rock to break through the glass and a metal security gate.
“Unbelievable. Heartbroken. It’s just a knot that sits there and you can’t do anything about it," said Binkley.
Among the guns taken, an AR-15 and a shotgun.
“We’re really worried about these guns. We want to get them off the street. This is a big deal. That’s a lot of guns to have on the street," added Binkley.
It’s a sentiment shared by police.
“It is extremely concerning the amount of firearms that were taken. That’s why we’re working diligently to try and locate these firearms and the people responsible for this burglary," said Det. Keith Boham with the Port St. Lucie Police Department.
The thieves also got away with nearly $9,000 in jewelry and $1,400 cash.
But this isn’t the strangest crime to ever happen at this pawn shop.
In 2013, the pawn shop was under a different name when an employee, the daughter of one of the owners, was found guilty of stealing $50,000 to pay for her wedding. She was sentenced to 6 months in jail, and is paying restitution.
As for this more recent crime, a $5,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest.
Right now police have made no arrests and have no suspects.
