The Friends of Lucy Carouselkicked off their efforts at Tradition Town Hall to drum up support for their vision.

The goal is to raise $1.9 million to bring a carousel from 1920 to the area.

If the interest, and money, is there it would take another 2-3 years to completely refurbish the carousel, which right now sits in a Georgia warehouse.

“And we want to rescue the carousel and get it restored,” said Ron Bowen with Friends of Lucy Carousel, Inc.

“The great thing about a carousel is it’s cross generational.  You can have the infant that was just born, to the great grandmother all on the same ride,” said Daniel Hornberger with Brass Ring Carousel.

As for where the carousel would be placed, one idea is in Tradition Square but supporters say anywhere in the region would be great.

If you’d like more information on the project, informational sessions are set up for Thursday from 10-to-noon and from 2:30-4:30 p.m. at the Port St. Lucie Community Center.
