A 29-year-old man was found shot to death early Thursday morning in the parking lot of a Fort Pierce hotel.

The incident happened at a La Quinta Inn located at 2655 Crossroads Parkway, just off Interstate 95 and Florida's Turnpike.

Police spokesman E.J. Diaz said the fatal shooting happened at 1:50 a.m.

The victim, identified as Heriberto Nieves, was found lying outside of a parked truck in the parking lot of the hotel.

Officers said Nieves appeared to have been shot in his upper body.

There are no known witnesses to the incident at this time.

“This morning I went down and had breakfast and nobody said anything. I don't think anyone in the hotel knows. I think if you went inside the hotel and asked, nobody would know anything," said hotel guest Inna Habelski.

Anyone with any information about the case should contact Detective Jesse Streeter at 772-360-6620 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-273-TIPS (8477).
