UPDATE: The boil water advisory was lifted Friday for St. Lucie County Utility customers on North Hutchinson Island.
EARLIER STORY: A boil water advisory was issued Wednesday for North Hutchinson Island after a private contractor broke a a main water line.
St. Lucie County government officials said in a written statement that all county utility customers on North Hutchinson Island are under the boil water notice.
Water service was shut off around 10 a.m. after a contractor broke a 6-inch line. Utility crews are working on the repairs and expect the water service to return before 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Once water is restored, all residents will be under a 72-hour precautionary, boil water advisory for any water used for drinking or cooking.
A rolling boil of one minute is sufficient to use tap water.
Officials said the boil water advisory impacts 3,668 St. Lucie County utility customers on North Hutchinson Island.
