St. Lucie County Sheriff Ken Mascara says no criminal charges will be filed in a shooting overnight Tuesday that left one man dead.

Jessica Thornton awoke to yelling outside her home Tuesday.  Peeking through her window, she saw a group of men in an argument at the Cypress Bay Mobile Home Park.

“It only took a second, a guy ducked away, came back and started shooting at the crowd and everybody scattered.  Then one guy hit the ground, that’s all I seen," said Thornton.

When the shooting stopped, one man, 27 year-old Chase Harrington Orvis from Palm Beach County, lay dead near the mailboxes.

A second man was taken to the hospital.

The Sheriff says they’re still looking into why Orvis and his two accomplices crossed paths with three men who were hanging out outside this home.

“What the state attorney did share with us through the investigation is that this is a self defense case," said Sheriff Mascara.

Detectives say 21 year-old Kyle Davis, who fired the fatal shots, found himself and his friends beaten up, on the ground, and in fear for their lives.

“He said he saw that moment where the guys gaze looked away from him and he thought that was the time to get it done," said Detective Paul Taylor.

The other victims have been identified as 20 year-old Michael Cunningham and 20 year-old David Quintero, who lived in the mobile home.  Neighbors say the shooting has them on edge.  One woman with a young child showed off a bullet hole through her trailer.
Jessica Thornton also has little ones.

“Yes it's really scary.  Sounded like a normal street argument that we have.  Didn’t expect any guns," said Thornton.

The search continues for the third suspect who ran across US 1.  He’s described as a white male, about 5’5” with black hair, chin hair and glasses.  He's considered armed and dangerous.  If you have any information, contact the Sheriff's Office at 772-462-3230.
