SOUTHERN PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. — A crash killed the driver of a Tesla on State Road 7 near Atlantic Avenue, tying up traffic for several hours Friday morning in suburban Delray Beach.

RELATED: Traffic Delays

Chopper 5 was over the scene around 6:40 a.m., providing live traffic reports and alternate routes for drivers.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said a tractor-trailer was traveling eastbound on the driveway access to 14095 State Road 7 at Pero Family Farms at 6:24 a.m. The semi was preparing to turn left onto State Road 7.

A 2018 Tesla 3, driven by Jeremy Beren Banner, 50, of suburban Lake Worth, was traveling southbound on State Road 7 in the outside lane, approaching Pero Farms.

PBSO said after the semi came to a brief stop at a stop sign, it entered the southbound lanes of State Road 7, pulling into the path of the Tesla.

The Tesla struck the driver's side of the semi's trailer, causing the roof to be sheared off as it passed underneath the trailer.

The car continued southbound and came to a final rest about 3/10th of a mile south of the wreck. Banner was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the semi was not hurt.

The report says there are no charges pending in the case.
