Driver rescued after crashing truck into canal

Emergency personnel in Delray Beach saved a man who crashed a truck into a canal Sunday night and credit a 911 caller for alerting them to the wreck.

Just before 10:30 p.m., Delray Beach Fire Rescue responded to a waterway located off southbound Interstate 95 south of Linton Boulevard.

Fire rescue said the man in the vehicle had to be removed and then hoisted up the embankment by a special operations team.

The patient was transported to the hospital in serious condition but is expected to survive.

Fire rescue said they are grateful to the witness who stopped and called 911, otherwise the vehicle could have gone unnoticed for hours.
