DELRAY BEACH, Fla. — DELRAY BEACH, Fla.-- Camp Catherine's in Delray Beach is fighting to stay open after a devastating diagnosis.

The pet salon and resort has been open since 2006 and Catherine Householder has been running the place since 2010. “I always have a feel for dogs and had a thing for animals,” said Householder.

She said in January she had to completely renovate to meet the new Animal Care and Control code and that cost $17,000. Then she was diagnosed with diabetic retinopathy, a disease that threatens her vision.

Treatment became a big financial hit because Householder does not have insurance.

“Health insurance is extremely expensive because I can't get like Obamacare or Medicaid or anything like that,” she said.

Householder said she had to make the difficult decision to pay for her medical bills instead of paying rent and now she is behind $25,000 that is due next Tuesday.

Her family started a donation campaign to help come up with some money to help save their business.

“It is not a good feeling having to go and ask people to help you keep your dream alive,” said Householder.

She said she I shopping there is some way to keep her dream alive by next week.
