Thomas Shiltz said for the last seven years he has complained about the speeding traffic on his street. He said this week a speed monitor showed up after he sent an email to Delray Beach Mayor Shelly Petrolia.

“You are the first person that has ever responded,” Shiltz told Petrolia.

The mayor said she tries to respond to every email she gets. She was able to pass his along to the city manager, and the city was able to put the speed monitor up right away.

“We are going to find out whether or not there is a problem, and if there is.., maybe do something about it,” said Petrolia.

Shiltz said in one day he has noticed the sign already helping.

“They come around the corner, and they are speeding, they see that thing right up there, and put on the brakes and drive slowly, but if that corrects the problem I am fine, leave it there,” he said.

The city will collect all the data from the sign and determine if a more permanent solution is needed.

Petrolia said the city is also working on a new website and app that will make it easier for people to report problems such as speeding on streets. The website and app should be launched by the end of the year.
