Delray Beach Deputy Vice Mayor Shirley Johnson is recovering after being struck by a vehicle, according to Delray Beach police.
Vice Mayor Adam Frankel said the incident happened Tuesday as Johnson was making her way from an overflow lot to Delray Beach City Hall.
Police said an Impala struck Johnson at a slow rate of speed as the car was attempting to make a left turn.
The driver was cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian, police said.
Frankel said Johnson has a broken knee.
Johnson told The Palm Beach Post, which first reported the story, that she expects to have surgery on her knee but is otherwise OK.
Frankel said Johnson is waiting for an orthopedic specialist and might need a knee replacement or the removal of bone fragments.
Story updated to clarify the information about a specialist came from the commissioner and not police department.
