BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. — Boynton Beach police are searching for the crook who walked into a restaurant in the middle of the day and stole a large safe.

Surveillance video from Troy's Bar-Be-Que, located at 1920 S. Federal Hwy., shows a thief wearing a hooded sweatshirt walk through a back door and into a storage area.

Seconds later, he's seen carrying a large safe in his arms and leaving the restaurant without anyone noticing. The safe contained thousands of dollars.

The restaurant said the crime happened on Monday at 3:15 p.m. as workers were preparing for a big week of holiday catering.

"As we approach the holiday season this is a huge blow to staff and their families that depend on the money that was taken," the restaurant's owners posted on Facebook. "We have always tried to give back to the community and now we really need the support of everyone that loves our food."

Troy's Bar-Be-Que said it's made changes to prevent this from happening again, but it's hoping someone will come forward with information about who the thief is.

"We are a small business and have the same struggles as many other small businesses and this is going to tremendously impact the future of Troy's," the owners wrote on Facebook.

The suspect drove away in what appeared to be a green four-door sedan, make and model unknown, that had some damage and scratches on the hood.

"We will open Wednesday and Friday," said owner Anthony Barber. "Come in and support us and put the pieces back together."
