New equipment hopes to provide increased safety at Florida Atlantic University.
FAU police will now be able to receive 911 calls, which include the caller's phone number and location.
According to a news release, the 911 Technical Services Division has worked with FAU staff to provide, install and activate the equipment.
Previously, when someone called 911 from the Boca Raton FAU campus, the call went to the Boca Raton Police Department, who would then transfer the call to FAUPD.
During this transfer, information available only during a 911 call was not transferred.
