BOCA RATON, Fla.-- Plans are set for a new public golf course in Boca Raton. The former Ocean Breeze Golf Club will be redesigned into Boca National Golf Club.

Pro golfer Nick Price and golf course designer Tom Fazio have put together a plan for the 200 acres of the run-down Ocean Breeze golf course.

“The most important thing is to encourage people who don’t play the game to come and play here,” said Price.

Price has been designing golf courses all around the world. Boca National will be the city's public golf course and Price said they want to course to be available to everybody.

The plans include an 18 hole course on the west side of NW 2nd Avenue. The east side will have an 11 hole par three course, a putting green for beginners to learn the basics, and a new clubhouse and training center.

“Even the big course, we are going to do a sixth tee that will be on the front of the fairway and that will play almost like a junior course,” said Fazio.

Price and Fazio have a $20 million budget provided by the Boca Raton Beach and Parks District. Fazio said the golf course will cost about $10 million and the amenities will make up the rest of the budget.

The permitting process has started and construction should start this summer.

“This is when we start enjoying it because this is when we start moving around,” said Price.

Boca National is expected to open in the fall of 2020.
