BOCA RATON, Fla. — The Boca National Golf Course could be getting a new design plan.

The Boca Raton Beach and Parks District has asked the city to help pay for the proposed $28 million Price/Fazio design.

But the $28 million was sticker shock for City Council which has asked other designers if they could build a golf course for $8 million.

"The goal is world-class golf at a price that makes sense to residents," said Mayor Scott Singer.

Singer said the city must look at other design options before they can give the district any money to build a new golf course.

Jess Frank has taught golf lessons in Boca Raton for 20 years and feels Boca National is a must-have for the city and he knows it is going to cost to build the course.

"Boca Raton is not a cheap community. People here want to best. Speeding the $28 million is a no brainer in my opinion,” said Frank.

16 golf designers have submitted their proposals to the city, all saying they can build an 18-hold course for around $8 million.

The proposals will be presented to City Council on Tuesday afternoon at a special workshop at Boca Raton City Hall. City Council can recommend the district to choose a different design plan.
