PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. -- Between 8 p.m. Saturday and 4 a.m. Sunday, Florida Highway Patrol teamed up with police departments including Palm Beach Gardens and Jupiter to catch impaired drivers.

2019 marks the 3rd year Mothers Against Drunk Driving, also known as MADD is hosting this public awareness campaign nationwide.

“A lot of times the person’s life we save is the impaired driver themselves, so if everyone can heed the warnings and understand what’s going on and get a designated driver we can definitely save some lives this weekend that can hopefully alter driving habits for the future as well,” said MADD Executive Director Larry Coggins.

According to FLHeathChart.org in 2018 more than 3,000 people were killed in car crashes throughout Florida with a third of those due to impairment.
