JUPITER, Fla. — Cheerleaders from a local school will be representing our area in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade in New York City.

Thirteen cheerleaders from Jupiter Christian School made their way to the big apple this week to prepare for their debut in the parade.

Cheerleading coach Lynette Sawyer said her girls will be joining 1,600 other cheerleaders from across the country.

“It’s a lot of hard work for these girls. They have been getting up super early, late-night rehearsals,” Sawyer said. “Thirteen out of my 17 girls are here. So, there’s 13 out of 1,600 that were chosen out of multiple thousands of girls, you can only imagine, all over the United States. It’s huge.”

Wednesday night, the girls were nervous but anxious to show off their spirit. They have a 3 a.m. wake up call Thursday morning, and hair and makeup begin at 5 a.m.

"They did fantastic at rehearsals today. Super proud of all of them,” Sawyer said.

Sawyer learned earlier this year that the Jupiter Christian School cheerleaders had been accepted to perform in the parade.

They have been working hard to raise money ever since to make the trip happen.

While in New York City and before the parade, they’ve been making the most of their trip, seeing shows, and visiting historic and iconic sites.

But, the parade will cap off a once in a lifetime experience, Sawyer said.

Somer Sawyer, one of the cheerleaders, said: “I think just the memories we’re going to make during it is going to be absolutely amazing."

Sawyer says the cheerleaders perform at 10:54 a.m. You can spot them, she says, in front of the third stunt group.

The parade begins at 9 a.m. on NBC.
