JUPITER, Fla. — A local animal rescue is giving much-needed care to a dog found in a ditch in Jupiter Farms, severely malnourished and underweight.
Furry Friends in Jupiter named the hound mix "Sandy" after the road where the dog was found.

President Pat Deshong said two other hound dogs were also found within a couple of miles of Sandy. One was another malnourished dog. The other was found dead.
Deshong said she has notified animal control and hopes to learn if the dogs are somehow related, or if it is a coincidence they were all brought to her attention Wednesday.
“Someone should be held accountable for this,” Deshong said.
Wednesday night, Deshong showed WPTV to the kennel where Sandy will be staying overnight. It could be the first warm bed and a good meal the dog has had in a while.
“It’s obvious that this dog hasn’t had any care for a really long time,” Deshong said. “This morning, he wouldn’t even move.”
By Wednesday night, the dog was already getting more comfortable. “He’s a really sweet dog. Sandy is a really sweet dog.”
Deshong said Sandy was found in a gully outside a home by a worker in Jupiter Farms.
He took the dog to Furry Friends.
“We took him in right away,” Deshong said.
A different woman contacted Deshong about the other two dogs.
“I didn’t see the dogs but one dog was dead and they said it looked a lot like [Sandy].”
Thursday morning, Deshong is prepared to take in the other dog found alive to begin giving it much needed care alongside Sandy.
“We have had you know cases like this and it’s sad and it’s hard to believe anyone would do that.”
