Book vending machine unveiled at Jerry Thomas Elementary School in Jupiter

JUPITER, Fla. — An elementary school in Jupiter has a new book vending machine in an effort to encourage literacy.

A ribbon-cutting is being held Friday at 1 p.m. at Jerry Thomas Elementary School the machine dubbed “Bookworm.”

According to a news release from the school, in order for students to use the machine the students must first earn tokens based on reading time, good behavior, grades and attendance.

They can then use the tokens to choose from 20 different books inside the vending machine.

Jerry Thomas Elementary School is the first school in Palm Beach County to implement a book vending machine.
