The Loggerhead Marinelife Center announced some big news in Juno Beach Wednesday morning!
According to Marketing & Communications Coordinator Kat Rumbley, biologists found the first leatherback turtle nest in the state of Florida this season, and likely the United States, just south of the Juno Beach Pier.
Biologists found the clutch of eggs and have marked it.
Rumbley said this is the earliest documented leatherback turtle nest on Juno Beach’s 9.5 miles since 2006. That nest in 2006 was also documented on Feb. 24.
Typically, leatherback sea turtle nests aren’t documented until March.
