A Juno Beach police officer was arrested on DUI charges near Delray Beach early Wednesday morning.

According to a police report, a witness called 911 to report a white Ford Excursion at a high rate of speed swerving lane to lane and swerving across the lines multiple times, almost hitting several vehicles. The witness added that the driver of the Ford also made a right hand turn and ended up in oncoming lanes.

Palm Beach County sheriff's deputies followed the vehicle driven by Calvin Delmas McGriff from I-95 and Atlantic Avenue to Woolbright and Jog Road and conducted a traffic stop.

According to the report, the deputy could smell the odor of alcohol and  McGriff's speech was slurred and his eyes blood shot. McGriff claimed he was having medical problems with diabetes.

Deputies called Palm Beach County Fire Rescue to evaluate McGriff's medical issues. His blood sugar level was within the normal range, according to the report.

The report also states that McGriff refused a sobriety test.

McGriff has been an officer with the Juno Beach Police Department since 2008. He was released from the Palm Beach Jail on his own recognizance Wednesday morning, a few hours after being booked.
