STUART, Fla.-- It has views along the water that are tough to beat anywhere, but the City of Stuart is once again looking at whether its time to move City Hall.
The current building was completed in 1974, and needs a new roof and new windows.
“So a decision has to come to the forefront. Are we going to stay here and make those repairs, or are we going to pull the trigger and go somewhere else?" asked City Manager David Dyess.
Dyess says the Wells Fargo site and adjoining building along Ocean Boulevard is one of a number of options he presented to commissioners at a workshop this week.
Another option, the TCPalm building along US 1. Both sites though would be hard pressed to match the views from the current City Hall.
“Since I’ve taken this position, I’ve had at least three people tell me am I interested in selling it or developing it," said Dyess.
There was also discussion about building something new down the street along Flagler Drive. Price tags range from a $1 million and a half for remodeling the current site, to $10-12 million for an entirely new building.
The city can purchase a future site if it chooses, but any future decisions about the current City Hall would have to be decided through a referendum.
