Teens brag about oceanographic center break-in

Three Treasure Coast teens are accused of killing fish at the Florida Oceanographic Society in Stuart and bragging about it online.

The facility is a family-friendly place to view sea animals and for researchers to study species.

Investigators said the teens were caught on camera trespassing and fishing in the game fish lagoon.

One night employees said the teens caught a 30-pound aquaculture cobia.

Investigators said one other night, the suspects hooked a nurse shark and left the line tangled in the dock without freeing the shark.

"It's a real chore to get into a shark’s mouth and get the hooks out.  We were able to do that, but it could have been a lot worse if it had been left a long time," said Mark Perry with Florida Oceanographic.

The state attorney's office is still deciding if the teens will be arrested and charged.
