The annual Memorial Day parade in drew hundreds to downtown Stuart as veterans and veteran organizations led the way down Ocean Boulevard.

The route ended at Memorial Park, where the city announced it is building a new Distinguished Service Memorial to recognize local heroes.

The first honoree will be Army Corporal Larry Brown, who died in Vietnam in 1968.

“He was an outgoing person, everybody loved him.  He wanted to go and fight the war since it was over there and he did… he just never did come back," said sister Linda Britton.

Each year, a new name will be added to the memorial.
