Residents in Stuart held an algae-awareness event Sunday in Stuart to bring attention to the crisis on the Treasure Coast.

Along the waterfront, people enjoyed live music and shopping at the local food market.
The group took the time to talk to the public about the algae and the importance of voting in Florida's elections this year.
“Some people don't read that every day or watch it every day, so it's a really good idea to spread awareness any way we can,” said Nic Mader of the River Kidz organization.
The group says they plan to do the same thing every Sunday in the future.
