WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — A woman is in critical condition after being shot during a road-rage incident in West Palm Beach.

According to West Palm Beach police, the road-rage incident involved two vehicles near the Palm Beach Outlets at Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard and Australian Avenue shortly after 8 a.m. Sunday.

The victim, a 44-year-old woman, was shot in the neck and, despite being critically injured, followed the shooter's car north on Interstate 95 to just north of the Martin County line.

She was able to call 911 and give a description of the vehicle — a red 2016 Nissan Altima.

The woman pulled over into the emergency lane and was airlifted to St. Mary's Medical Center in critical condition.

Detectives traced the shooter's car to Greenacres and trailed the vehicle to Palm Beach Gardens, where they initiated a traffic stop on PGA Boulevard near Fairchild Gardens Avenue.

Detectives impounded the vehicle, detained the three occupants and crime scene investigators collected evidence from the scene of the shooting.

No arrests have been made yet and the investigation is ongoing.

"The three people that were in that suspect vehicle are refusing to cooperate with police. This is very much an active and ongoing investigation," West Palm Beach police spokesman Mike Jachles said. "We have our officers that responded to the initial call. We have our crime scene investigators that recovered evidence at the scene of the shooting. We have the vehicle — the suspect vehicle — that has been impounded. So there will be search warrants and other investigative tools that will be used to further this investigation."

The Florida Highway Patrol, Jupiter police, Palm Beach Gardens police and the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office assisted the West Palm Beach Police Department in the investigation.

West Palm Beach police are asking anyone who witnessed the shooting to contact them at 561-822-1900 or Palm Beach County Crime Stoppers at 800-458-TIPS. Callers to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and tips submitted to Crime Stoppers that lead to an arrest could result in a cash reward.
