WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — How do you promote social awareness about higher food costs, hunger and unforeseen circumstances like the pandemic? One West Palm Beach family does it by feeding an entire neighborhood.

You’re probably familiar with the Miller family on West Palm’s 23rd Street. Over the last nine years they’ve invited strangers to their home in Coleman Park for a free Christmas dinner and fellowship.

This year in particular, the Millers took it a step further by hosting a free meal each and every month. They family says it’s in response to the burden facing older adults and people who survive on fixed incomes.

On Saturday afternoon, about 120 people received a free meal consisting of options from beef taco’s to Thanksgiving dinner. The Millers call their commitment to promoting awareness a responsibility.

“We strongly believe that our Biblical mandate is to feed the community,” said Willie Miller, Jr. “We truly believe also that we need to sow. And when we sow we tremendously reap and when we reap we give back to the community. So we sow, reap and we give those resources that we obtain back to the community.”

On Christmas Day the Millers will celebrate 10 years feeding the community. The event happens from noon to 4pm. The public is invited.
