WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- U.S. Rep. Lois Frankel says she wants to stop what she calls horrible state abortion bans in their tracks.

At a Wednesday news conference in downtown West Palm Beach, the Democratic lawmaker said she and other women are in for the fight of their lives with the Trump administration and Republicans after recent restrictive abortion legislation in Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi.

Last week, Frankel filed a bill called the Women’s Health Protection act in Congress that would prohibit states from passing laws that make abortions illegal unless it is for a medical reason.

She said abortion should be a woman’s choice and she’s not backing down.

“As a mother and a grandmother I know there’s nothing more special than bringing a child into the world. That child brings great joy and great responsibilities, and the decision whether to bring a child into the world has to be made by a woman and with those she trusts -- not by politicians."

Frankel was joined by Florida Alliance of Planned Parenthood Affiliates Executive Director Laura Goodhue and Presidential Women’s Center CEO Mona Reis.
