Months of detours and road closures in West Palm Beach have left business owners in need of a boost to the bottom line. Including those off the beaten path. And there’s a new initiative that should have both businesses and customers looking for green.
The Clematis Streetscape Project is slated to maximize business and leisure in phases but Arne Arendts, owner of Flair Realty says his company along Dixie Highway has felt the impact.
“Almost like an 80 to 90-percent reduction because nobody could pass by,” said Arendts. “Every kind of promotion of the downtown is good for us.”
That promotion is Roam the Road. A new initiative launched by West Palm’s Downtown Development Authority to highlight the small businesses not on Clematis Street. Participating businesses along Dixie Highway between Clematis and Fern Streets and along Evernia Street invite the public on Saturday to enjoy free samples and specials.
“Every downtown has a main street but everything that happens beyond that is important too,” said Sherryl Muriente, Downtown Development Authority.
”It’s a great thing for all the businesses nearby,” added Theodore Fitzgerald Verbockel, Gracie Barra manager.
