Palm Beach County School District increasing recruitment efforts out of state

PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. — It's a growing problem here in Palm Beach County. The school district says it has more teaching jobs than teachers.

For Tim Kubrick it hasn't been an easy problem to solve.

"We have to think outside the box if we want to get more teachers into our classrooms," Kubrick said.

In this case, thinking outside the box means going outside of the state to fill open jobs within the school district.

"When we hire over 1,000 teachers a year throughout 179 schools you're always going to need someone," he said.

Kubrick is the Lead Human Resource Partner with the school district. He says they've been heading to other states, holding job fairs to recruit certified teachers to Palm Beach County. Recently, he even got a candidate from the Dominican Republic.

"They were really excited and that made me so happy I applied on a Tuesday night and the next day I received a call," Charity Servino said.

In August a new partnership with NYU will begin where the district will hire
