PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. — Theresa LePore reacted to the suspension of Susan Bucher.
LePore was the county's election supervisor from 1996 to January 2005.
LePore is surprised with the decision Governor Ron DeSantis made. "I was not surprised about Broward County but I was surprised about Palm Beach County. I don't know that Susan Bucher really did anything intentionally wrong."
Last week, the governor announced he was suspending Bucher based on issues with the recounts from the November elections.
Bucher fired back. "It's time to question the rule of law this governor to take elected officials from office slander them and subject them to a partisan stacked jury of his choosing."
LePore was Supervisor of Elections in Palm Beach County when the 2000 presidential ballots caused controversy. That office is in the spotlight again.
"I know that her suspension, she has a right to appeal before the Florida Senate. It is a very hard job. People think you only work once every two years, but there are elections going on all of the time," LePore said.
She hopes what is happening now will not stop voters from heading to the polls.
"I hope the voters don't get discouraged about the process because it does work. I don't think that anybody intentionally would do anything to manipulate the ballots or the election."
Governor Ron DeSantis appointed Wendy Sartory Link as Election Supervisor.
