The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office is looking for two suspects seen leaving in white pick up truck from a 55 and over community in suburban West Palm Beach. The men are wanted for distracting a 96-year-old woman and trying to steal from inside her home.

The woman, who did not want to reveal her identity, says the men knocked on her door and said they were with the residential association and they were looking for roof leaks.

"He went right into the kitchen and he started opening all of my kitchen doors, closets," said the elderly victim.

She followed the man who walked into her bedroom and saw him over by her dresser, eyeing her jewelry and other possessions.

"I asked him what are you doing there and he said nothing and I said get out of here and get out of my house," she said. "He put his hand up like he was going to hit me, so I took my cane and swatted him across the arm and he dropped my jewelry box."

The woman says she wasn't afraid at the moment, just upset.

"He tried to squeeze past me and I hit him again across the back and then he got passed and I hit him on the head and he got out of my front door and I said 'get out, keep going."

People in the same community say a similar incident happened about one year ago.

"They come in a utility vehicle, people say okay the office sent them over. We have a strict policy if anyone comes over, the manager comes with them," said Frank Saley.

The elderly victim hopes the two men are caught before they do this again. She's learned her lesson and wants her neighbors to be on alert.

"To be on the lookout, don't be so naive," she said.
