The Friday before Thanksgiving is the worst day when it comes to airport delays around the holiday and Palm Beach International has the dubious honor of being the second worst in the nation when it comes to length of delay, according to a recent study
Jean Murray and her husband are trying to get to New York via Long Island.
They’re flight’s delayed.
Thursday the weather there was very un-Florida like.
They’re snowbirds.
“We have a winter place down here on Jensen Beach,” she said.
The recent ValuePenguin study tracked November flights for the last five years, looking at factors from security to weather as causes for delays.
They reported PBI as the airport with the second longest average delay time in the country over Thanksgiving.
Jean’s is delayed 35 minutes. The average is 37 minutes out of PBI, according to the study.
“I’m very surprised because we come from New York, you would think it’s for sure JFK or LaGuardia,” Jean said.
A potential factor: flights into West Palm Beach can be delayed from the Northeast due to bad weather, where many of the flights originate.
“We’re at the mercy of the other airports and the other flight connections,” said snowbird Jean Boulange, who is picking up her daughter from Buffalo.
Because of that, when it’s time for that aircraft to leave West Palm, it’s already behind the 8-ball.
That’s where Linda puts the blame.
“I say (the study is) crazy because they’ve never been to the New York airports!” she said.
The worst airport in that study for delay time: Newark.
The busiest travel day is the day before Thanksgiving.
