ROYAL PALM BEACH, Fla. — A man was killed and a woman was injured following an ATV crash this past weekend in Royal Palm Beach, deputies said.

The wreck occurred at 50 Bobwhite Road in the Willows subdivision just before 8 p.m. Saturday.

The man, identified as Arron Pena, 54, was pronounced dead at the scene. The female victim, Evelyn Chavez, 32, was taken to a local hospital in stable condition.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said speed and alcohol were likely factors in the deadly crash. Deputies also say the victims did not appear to be wearing any safety gear.

Christine Abruscato, who lives near where the crash occurred, said she heard police activity and sirens on Saturday night.

"I think it's horrendous. I think it's terrible," Abruscato said. "I mean the poor parents, right before Thanksgiving. It's silly, it doesn't have to happen."

Witnesses told the sheriff's office that the ATV was going very fast when the crash happened.

Gerald Ritchie also lives in the area.

"I only see the medical people here, police here, I didn't see anything, we didn't try to see anything you know," Ritchie said. "It's sad, you know. It's sad."

There are signs off Bobwhite Road warning against unauthorized motor vehicles in the area.

Neighbors said they'd like to see more enforcement to help prevent another tragedy like this from happening again.

"You hear them racing here all the time — ATVs, Go Karts, jet skis are in the water all the time," Abruscato said. "You always hear them going faster than they should be."

The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said they respond to multiple fatal and severe injury crashes involving ATVs and other off-road vehicles each year.
