Riviera Beach council runoff election today

If you live in Riviera Beach,  Tuesday is Election Day.

Polls opened at 7 a.m. to allow residents to choose who should represent them for the District 1 seat on the council. Incumbent Bruce Guyton faces challenger Lynne Hubbard.

The two first ran against each other during the March 17 primary. Since neither received more than 50 percent of the vote, they went into a runoff, which resulted in a tie.

Guyton alleged Hubbard of voter fraud following that election.  He argued before a judge that ballots cast by three of his challenger’s relatives should be thrown out.

In the suit he said there was proof that Hubbard’s nephew and two brothers listed an address they didn’t live at and therefore didn’t have a right to vote in the city election.

Ultimately the judge said Guyton didn’t meet the burden of proof and ordered an additional runoff.
