Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw announced Friday that a national group will examine the department's policies and procedures when it comes to active shooters.
He has asked the Police Executive Research Forum to examine PBSO.
"I think this is something this community can benefit from. It will show if we have any deficiencies and gaps we need to fill. I don't want to wait for something to happen and find out I wasn't doing the right thing," Bradshaw said.
PERF is a Washington, D.C.-based organization that conducts research and develops policies, programs, and training for law enforcement agencies.
In 2014, PERF conducted a study about mass shooting incidents and strategies to prevent them.
