LOXAHATCHEE GROVES, Fla. — The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office is no longer looking for a driver who struck a pedestrian early Saturday morning in Loxahatchee Groves.

PBSO originally said a couple was walking along F Road at the intersection of Edith Road at 1:30 a.m. when an unknown make and model truck or sport-utility vehicle was traveling northbound on F Road. According to witness accounts, the vehicle was traveling with its headlights off as it approached and hit the pedestrian.

Investigators now say the husband of the pedestrian, identified as Andres M. Santiago, has admitted under oath to accidentally colliding with and running over the woman while attempting to leave his driveway.

When he realized what happened Santiago stopped, pulled the woman out from under vehicle, and transported her to Palms West Hospital, according to the sheriff's office. She was later taken to St. Mary's Medical Center.

Alcohol impairment is believed to have been a factor in this collision, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.

Anyone with information is urged to contact PBSO Investigator Sean Ramsey at 561-681-4540 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-458-TIPS.
