Palm Beach County Schools Superintendent Robert Avossa held a year-end news conference Monday to highlight some of the district's recent accomplishments.

Avossa cited district is improving because the school board has not been afraid to tackle issues.

The superintendent said he was proud of a five-year strategic plan put in place to guide the district’s work.

Avossa said a 10-month review of resource allocation helped redirect $15 million to better align with the district's strategic plan.

He said a restructured and reorganized transportation department has improved struggling bus issues that affected the district last school year.

Other notable accomplishments cited by Avossa:

  • Increased Internet school bandwidth by 400 percent
  • Decreased student suspensions, particularly for Black and Hispanic students
  • Half-penny sales tax approval will help fund $1 billion in school repairs
