WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — Black achievement isn't just reserved for one month and a 2021 calendar to highlight the important work of Black men 365 days a year in Palm Beach and Broward counties is set to be released this weekend.

For six years, the organization SHE Holdings LLC has held a black-tie event to release the Project 12 calendar. The event and the calendar are meant to empower and inspire South Florida's Black community. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the team behind the annual event had to rearrange things.

”It symbolizes and emphasizes the importance of Black males in our community,” said Bruce Lewis, Project 12 calendar 2016 recipient.

And the publisher of this calendar says the 10,200 social justice demonstrations and protests over the summer only fueled the need and urgency for a new edition.

”I saw the comfortable become uncomfortable,” said Shenetria Moore, SHE Holdings LLC CEO and Project 12 publisher. “Regardless if I’m a multimillionaire or not - this (killing of Black men) is affecting me. I need to put all boots to the ground. I need to put my hands to the plow. It's not a black or white thing. It's a humanity thing.”

Even amid the pandemic. In years past the calendar and release recognizing 12 black men in politics, law enforcement and law, ministry, and medicine making impactful contributions was held in front of a large sold-out crowd at West Palm’s Kravis Center.

But due to the pandemic, the unveiling will be held Jan. 2 at John Prince Park at 3 p.m. during a “drive-in” calendar release and reception. Proceeds go towards scholarships and enrichment programming for black youth and young adults from age 10 through college and early adulthood. To learn more, click here.

”We’re putting positive affirmation in front of the next generation,” Moore said.
